Artist's Comments

This is a drawing from a photograph my Father took of a place called the Newel K. Whitney Store in Kirtland, Ohio. I really liked the pic and decided to draw it. It did end up with an Honerable mention in my 12th grade year of High School in an Art Show. Pretty much the only accolade I have ever received from any of my art.

Sublime play of light and shadows here. The paper's texture coming through gives it a rustic and aged feeling, and augments the existing impression of a country kitchen. The blurry but precise details are very impressionist. All around, the subtle atmospheric choices and the sense of character are great. I'm always glad to find good stuff at random.

First prize.
